Buy the Samsung Galaxy S5 now, no need to wait until April 11th

Samsung may want to sell its Galaxy S5 smartphone on April 11 but there are some carriers in South Korea who have already started selling the device.

SK Telecom, largest carrier in South Korea, is selling the Galaxy S5 device for a price of $808. It is selling the device across its 3,000 retail stores and websites.

SK Telecom is facing a ban starting from April 5 which will hold them back from selling the new Galaxy S5 device. This is the reason they started selling it prior to the official date.

A spokesperson for SK Telecom said:

We decided to release the product for a wider consumer choice of handsets before our operation suspension begins on April 5

This move from SK Telecom had Samsung puzzled. A Samsung Store in South Korea wrote in an email statement:

We are very puzzled. SK Telecom strongly asked for an earlier release of the product but we delivered our stance that the global release date of April 11 remains unchanged.

Along with SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ also will be banned from selling smartphones for a duration of 45 days. The ban was imposed by the government giving huge discounts on smartphone sales that exceeded the allowed limit.

Samsung will be eyeing to dominate the high-end smartphone segment with its Galaxy S5 smartphone. Hope the heavy discounts offered on the devices sold prior to April 11th do not hurt Samsung sales.
